Copy New 1
Overview
Copy New 1 creates a duplicate of a selected component, excluding any nested components. The new component is placed in the same location as the original file, with a unique numeric index, and can be modified independently. Nested components are reused, making this command ideal for duplicating assemblies that only require minor changes.
The index for each new file is assigned automatically to ensure uniqueness; for details on how file names and indexes are managed, see File Names.
How It Works
- Select a component to copy.
- Click the location for the new component.
- The command creates a new duplicate copy of the selected component in the same folder, reusing all nested components.
- The new component receives a unique index and can be modified independently.
Usage Instructions
- Select the component you want to copy.
- Click the Copy New 1 button in the Configure panel.
- Choose the location for the new component.
- Modify the new component as needed.
Troubleshooting
- If the new component is not created, verify the selection and file location.
- Ensure the original component is not locked or in use.
- Check for naming conflicts in the destination folder.
Examples
- Duplicate a duct route: Use Copy New 1 to create a new assembly, then replace a single fitting as needed.
- Duplicate a subsystem in a master assembly: Select the subsystem and use Copy New 1 to create a duplicate with a new index.
